How to get to Denpasar

In Bali, Denpasar fly mostly regular flights, charters there are raised only for the New Year holidays. The most economical and convenient variants of flight from Moscow are the direct flight "Transaero" (journey time about 12 hours) or Singapore Airlines on the route Moscow-Singapore-Denpasar (about 13 hours without docking), but they fly only once a week. Also, Turkish Airlines + Air Asia (Moscow-Istanbul-Singapore-Denpasar route) or Thai Airways (via Bangkok) are in demand. The last airline flies to Jakarta as well.

From Kuta and Legian, here you can get to Denpasar by taxi for 20-30 minutes. Sanur is just 15 minutes from the capital. In the city itself, the transport network is represented by bright bimo minibuses, each of which has the first and final stops in Latin letters. You can pay for the bus at the ticket office of the terminal.

The best way to travel around the city is by horse-drawn carriages - dokar. They usually accommodate several passengers and drive to the most interesting places in the city.

The history of Denpasar

The former name of the city was Badung .For a long time the country was under the patronage of the Dutch, thanks to the help and protection of which the region remained independent throughout the 19th century..After the conflict between the Balinese and the Western authorities, the invaders decided to take power into their own hands..When the troops approached the palace of the rajah, a colony led by the king and priests arose toward them,.The procession stopped and the priest stabbed a knife encrusted with expensive stones in the heart of his master .This example was followed by all .Such suicides continued in other parts of the island..Under international pressure the Dutch were forced to leave the country .In 1936 the city changed its name to Denpasar .

The capital of Denpasar is

Kitchen and restaurants

Denpasar is a quiet city, where you can not find a fun nightlife, luxury restaurants or cafes. Nevertheless, you can enjoy national cuisine in simple street restaurants - varungs. Here serve nasi campur - boiled rice with various additives, nasi goreng - popular in Indonesia fried rice, soto ayam - spicy chicken soup with vegetables and lots of noodle dishes. The prices are quite low, and the dishes are very tasty.

After 10 pm, all restaurants are closed, but do not despair: the night market Kumbasari will not leave anyone hungry. The market is full of trays and open-air restaurants that offer local dishes cooked according to family recipes.

Shopping is worth going to the largest and colorful market Pasar Badung. This is a three-story brick building, where trade is conducted around the clock. There are dance performances and music shows.

Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Denpasar

Denpasar, in Balinese, means "north of the Market". It is a quiet green city with a rich cultural heritage. In the center of the city is Puputan Square, where in 1906 the mass suicide of Raja Badung and his entourage in front of the Dutch occupants was committed. At the intersection of the highways there is a five-meter statue of Catur Muka, a four-faced guard, indicating the exact position of the city center.

Next to the square is the Bali Museum, built in 1910 by the Dutch .Thus, the population tried to prevent the plundering of Balinese art and export abroad .The building houses museums of anthropology and ethnography .Many pavilions store unique items of ancient aborigines, ritual accessories, ornaments, handicrafts, costumes and dolls .In the main building there are exhibits dating back to the 2nd century BC .In the southern pavilion you can see samples of sacred tissue from the village of Tenganan .The museum is open from 8 .00 to 17 .00 every day except Friday .

The most striking and interesting building in the capital is the Pura Maospahit - a temple built in the 14th century.

The most striking and interesting building in the capital is Pura Maospahit, a temple built in the 14th century. The architecture of the building is unique and simple. The temple is built of brick and, most interestingly, without carvings and traditional ornaments. Inside the temple there are several courtyards and an empty tree trunk, into which the alarm is tossed. In the middle yard there is a statue of the mythical Garuda eagle and the god of the wind.

In the eastern part of the city is the Cultural Center Taman Budaya. Here you can visit the art gallery or see the colorful show - the ritual dance Kecak, the "dance of monkeys". In June, there is a big dance festival here. Photos of Denpasar (15)
