The city of Pisa in the overwhelming majority of citizens is instantly associated with the eponymous "falling tower". That, in general, is not too fair: there is something to see and besides the famous inclined bell tower.

How to navigate in the city
A half-hour walk from the railway station to the Field of Miracles (Campo dei Miracoli), where the same tower is located, runs along pedestrian streets full of all kinds of entertainment: here you can not breathe from shops, restaurants, souvenir shops, tourists and even attractions. So the best way to view and penetrate Pisa is pedestrian. The historical center of the city is very small, and the agony with parking can not be avoided even in the winter.
How to get
Pisa International Airport. Galilo Galilei is just 2 km south of the city, and takes a lot of flights both from other Italian cities and from around the world. You can get here by train from the main station in 10 minutes, departure every 10 minutes, the fare is about 1 EUR.
In addition, Pisa has good railway communication with other cities in the country. From here, trains run to Florence (6 EUR, up to 40 departures a day, en route 1 hour 15 minutes), Livorno (2 EUR, 15 minutes, hourly), Pistoia (5 EUR, 1 hour 15 minutes, 5 trains per day) Lucca (3 EUR, 25 minutes, 20 departures per day) and even Rome.
From the Piazza Sant'Antonio bus station, CPT buses leave for Volterra (5 EUR, 2 hours) and Livorno (3 EUR, 45 minutes, half an hour).
- "Support" the Tower of Pisa with your finger, both hands or your whole body - in the photo, of course.
- Go to a cheerful party in the student quarters - studios here the vast majority of the population.
- Enter the Duomo, unfairly eclipsed by its inclined bell tower.
- Light your own candle at the Luminar festival, when the entire Pisa is illuminated only by natural fire.

Kitchen and restaurants
It should immediately take for the rule that eating around the falling tower is tasteless and expensive (compared to the rest of the wonderful restaurants of Pisa, of course). So do not be lazy, and go 5-10 minutes from Piazza dei Miracoli towards the train station, where you can find very tasty and adequate restaurants. For example, insanely delicious cafes in the small Piazza delle Vettovaglie, where the vegetable market is open. Also famous for its catering streets Via San Martino, near the southern promenade.
But if your sense of hunger is just off scale and there is absolutely no desire to make even a couple of steps, you can look into the pizzeria Kinzica, which is located directly on the square, or via via Roma (near the Leaning Tower of Pisa) in a good Indian restrane, albeit not the most budgetary one. In any case, tourists do not regret that they went for a dessert in Salza on Borgo Stretto. Prices here are high, but the quality of chocolate, desserts and pastries is simply beyond praise.
Outside of the Field of Miracles, you can advise Osteria di Culegna (on the main pedestrian street Via Mercanti), Numero 11 (47-49, Via San Martino), Vineria di Piazza (Piazza delle Vettovaglie) with a good selection of wine and national cuisine, Il Montino (Via del Monte) - amazing pizza and focaccia cheap, La Stanzina (Via Calvalca near Piazza delle Vettovaglie).
Expensive, but tasty at the Osteria dei Cavalieri (Via San Frediano near Piazza dei Cavalieri) and La Mescita (Via Cavalca near Piazza delle Vettovaglie). In addition, you can dine in places where there are almost no tourists: Pizzeria Tavola Calda La Tana (V. San Frediano) and Funicolì (Via L. Bianchi 33).

Events
In summer, Pisa organizes two spectacular events. The first is the Luminara festival, timed to the day of Saint Ranieri, the patron saint of the city. On this day, at sunset, all the lights and lights along the Arno River go out, and then 10,000 candles are lit (the best views are from the Ponte di Mezzo bridge). The holiday continues with concerts, performances and competitions, and the evening ends with a big firework.
The second event, which takes place every last Sunday in June, carries the amusing name Gioco del Ponte (Games on the bridge), and takes us to medieval Italy. On this day, the inhabitants of the two banks of Pisa - Tramontana and Mezzogiorno, separated by the Arno River, take part in a historical procession that ends with a match at Ponte di Mezzo.
