How to get to Madaba
Madaba is 45 minutes drive from Amman on the way to the airport and further south. Alpha Daily Tours (tel. (06) 585-51-96) organizes trips for the whole day, the cost of which includes entrance tickets and services of an English-speaking guide. Departure from the terminal Alpha on the Seventh Ring in Amman at 14:00. Also there are shuttle buses from Al-Abdali station. There are no traffic timetables: minibuses are sent when passengers are picked up.

Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Madaba
A well-known mosaic map covers the floor in the Greek Orthodox Church of Sts. George. The dimensions of the mosaic slab were originally 15, 6 x 6 m, but only a quarter of all this magnificence survived. Other mosaic masterpieces can be seen in the Church of the Blessed Virgin and the Apostles, as well as in the Archaeological Museum. There are literally hundreds of different mosaics of the 5th-6th centuries. scattered around other Madaba temples and houses.

Mukawir
An hour's drive along the picturesque "Royal Road" from Madaba is Mukavir, the fortress of Herod the Great. After Herod's death, the castle was inherited by his son Antipas. It was here that he gave the order to decapitate John the Baptist at the request of Salome - as a reward for the dance she performed. It is also close to Mount Nebo - one of the most revered holy places in Jordan, the burial place of Moses.
