Rabat is the capital of the Kingdom of Morocco, its political, cultural and industrial center, located on the banks of the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the river Bou-Regret. In addition, Rabat is one of the "Imperial cities" of Morocco, along with Fez, Meknes and Marrakesh.

The city is striking with its peculiar architecture, which is a mixture of Europe and the East. It should be noted that, despite the fact that Rabat is a modern business center, it has fully preserved its eastern Moroccan flavor.

Transport

Public transport is provided by buses. There are official routes for buses, and bus stops mark the buses of which routes they stop. The fare is about 3, 5 MAD (about 0, 5 USD).

Buses are, of course, good and very cheap, but still in the city it's more comfortable and faster to move by taxi. Taxi is very much, you can stop the car simply by waving your hand in the street or taking it in the parking lot. There are two types of taxi in Rabat: red (Petit Taxi company) and white (Grand Taxi company).

Medina (English)

Petit Taxi uses old Peugeot or Fiat cars and drives only within the city limits. The maximum number of passengers is 3 people. The cost of a trip around the city, as a rule, does not exceed 25-30 MAD. All cars are equipped with counters and must be checked when taxiing in a taxi so that the driver can turn it on. Despite the presence of a counter, the cost of the trip is always better to specify before landing in the car, bargaining is appropriate.

Grand Taxi uses old Mercedes cars, it can be used both for trips around the city (it will cost more than Petit Taxi), and beyond. The maximum number of passengers is 6 people (2 front and 4 rear).

Rabat hotels

The Moroccan capital has hotels of different levels. More budget options are located in the Old Town area. A lot of hotels are located in the center of Rabat on Muhammad Street V.

What to Buy

Despite the fact that Medina in Rabat is inferior in size to say Medina Fez or Marrakech, in local shops you can also buy national products: Pearls (Moroccan shoes), wide pants, decorative mirrors, carpets, etc.

As in any Moroccan market, there are 2 zones: with traditional products of local production and with imported products (usually Chinese). What is remarkable, tourists are always attracted to things, so to speak, made in Morocco, but local - made in China.
