The Altamira Cave, which is located in the Spanish region of Cantabria, is again open to tourists. For twelve years, visitors have not been allowed in here, so it is expected that there will be a lot of people wishing to see the unique place. Altamira Cave is known for the fact that there are preserved rock paintings that date back to the late Paleolithic period . For a long time the cave took the first place in the list of attractions of the resort region . Hundreds of travelers visited it daily until one day on the rock carvings there was found mold, which before that was not . The cave is a World Heritage site, therefore was about decided to protect it from visitors . Scientists believed that this way it will be possible to prevent the change of drawings, because thanks to the isolation in the cave will not get microorganisms from the outside world that change the climate and cause the appearance of mold .

The cave was recently opened. True, visitors are allowed here in small groups. At the entrance tourists will be given disposable jumpsuits, special shoes, a mask and gloves.
