The capital of pottery, the city of Nabeul is located 16 km north of the popular resort of Hammamet .There are very few hotels here, and nothing breaks the measured course of the usual Tunisian life: the Nabeulians, as before, live in the rhythm of the season change - they collect orange flowers in the spring, make ceramic products in the summer, harvest hot peppers in the autumn and provide citrus fruits throughout Tunisia in the winter .On Fridays, the townspeople rush to the bustling Souk El Djemaa market, where you can buy everything - from a bunch of dried hot pepper to a camel - not a souvenir, but the actual .Rest here is very calm and measured, there are not many sights, and entertainment - and even less, they should go to Hammamet .Budget hotels at an attractive price, combined with good beaches and proximity to the atmosphere of entertainment Hammamet - the main secret of Nabel's success in the tourism market .

What to ride

Between the hotels of Nabeul and the city center it is most convenient to travel by a yellow taxi. When boarding, do not forget to make sure that the driver turns on the meter. On average, the trip will cost 3-5 TND.

On Friday, when a popular market is unfolding in Nabeul, taxi drivers are insolent and ask for a trip twice as expensive. In order not to overpay the robbers for the steering wheel, it's better to spend the first half of the day on the beach - by 2 pm the agiotage is dropping.

Also to the services of tourists are all kinds of entertaining transport: tourist trains, open six-seat taxi-motor-bikes "tuk-tuki" and tarantas with a pair of bay - "kaleshi". Here the price should be negotiated in advance - there is a virtual mark-up for exotic transport and various unnecessary gadgets, such as sultans on horse-crowns.

Between Nabeul, Hammamet and Yasmine-Hammamet, you can travel by the same municipal buses SRTGN .Bus-"accordion" of route number 115 runs every half hour from 7 am to 1:30 am in the summer and until 22:00 in the winter .The journey time from the end to the end of the route is 45 minutes (fare 1, 2 TND) .Landing - in the back door, here is the payment for the travel to the conductor (you need to name the destination), exit - through the front .The bright minibuses of Route 120 run once an hour from 8:15 to 22:15 in the summer and until 19:15 in the winter (departure from the final points in a quarter of every hour) .They travel a little more expensive - 1, 6 TND .

Entertainment, excursions and attractions Nabel

Nabeul, ancient Neapolis, was founded in 5 BC by the Phoenicians, later destroyed during the Third Punic War and, as usual, was rebuilt a little later by the efforts of the Romans. The ancient city center was located 1.5 km from the coast - today there is an archaeological park on this place, where you can see the remains of antique villas, several floor mosaics and ancient vats for the production of garum. By the way, in 1960, several sealed amphoras with garum were found here.

Garum - a favorite delicacy of the Romans, sauce from fermented fish intestines. It is to be thought that the streets of ancient Nabel were not fragrant with citrus orchards.

The archaeological museum of Nabeul is small, but literally peppered with various interesting exhibits. Among the pearls are Punic decorations, objects and statues 7 in BC, objects from burials in Carthage, including a terracotta goddess with a full-sized lion's head, Sphinxes and the goddess breastfeeding the child - an ancient prototype of the Mother of God, as well as mosaics from Neapolis.

Two of Nabeul's main attractions, where tourists like to be photographed - a giant ceramic bowl with oranges in the center of the city and a ceramic amphora with a tree growing from it at the railway station.

A small private museum Dar Zaman ("House of Time"), located in the medina of Nabeul and occupying the former governor's house, offers a look at the life and habits of urban residents of the 19th century. Among the exhibits are wedding clothes, jewelry, furniture and interior items. Recreated the room of Bey and the Berber tent; guests are entitled to a glass of mint tea. Photo by Nabel (14)
