Samarkand - one of the oldest cities in Central Asia . Successfully located between India, Persia and China, it for centuries has been a key point of the Great Silk Road . Samarkand has a long and dramatic history: it was practically wiped out by the Mongols of Genghis Khan, then Tamerlane returned the city to life and made the capital of its huge empire, and under Ulugbek, the grandson of Tamerlane, a number of madrasahs were built in the city - so Samarkand became the academic capital of the East . Almost all unique monuments of architecture from the times of Tamerlane were kept in Samarkand to this day .

Entertainment, excursions and sights of Samarkand

The main attraction of Samarkand is Registan, one of the most beautiful squares in the world, tion majestic ancient buildings, minarets and mausoleums. The art of glazed facing there reached its highest point: in many old buildings there is not the slightest part of the surface without decor. A striking example is the madrassa of Tillya-Kari, the most beautiful Madrassahs of Ulugbek and Sher-Dor.

Starting from Registan, it is worthwhile to go around the whole old city to see Ishtar-Khon's mausoleum (in it lie the women of the Timurid dynasty), the famous Ulugbek observatory, mausoleum Rukhabad (tomb of Islamic mystic Burhaneddin Sagaraji), the mausoleums of Khodja Abdi-Darun, Al-Bukhari and the biblical prophet Daniel

The cult place of Samarkand is Timur's biblical mosque Bibi-Khanym, next to which is the mausoleum of Timur himself and his descendants Gur-Emir . Also of interest are the City Art Museum, Ak-Saray Mausoleum, Namozgokh Mosque, Khoja-Ahror Madrassah and Hazrat-Khizr Mosque. The city of Afrasiab is adjacent to the city boundary, in the southern part of which there is a unique ensemble of Shokhi-Zind's tombs. Photo of Samarkand (13)
