Tashkent is not the most suitable place for a traveler eager to see the real East. This is a typical Soviet metropolis, the fourth most populous city in the CIS after Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kiev. From the old city there are only a few blocks in the area of the Chorsu bazaar: in 1966, Tashkent was almost completely destroyed by a powerful earthquake.

Kitchen and restaurants
Local cuisine should be sought, of course, in the Old Town. Most of the fragrant chaikhan and cafe was concentrated between the Kukeldash Madrasah and the Chorsu bazaar. Here you can taste real Uzbek kebab, shawarma, hot samsa. Look also at the Yunus-Abad tennis courts, where the huge "Osh Marcasi" ("Plova Center") is located. Needless to say, a simple and at the same time an amazing dish of rice and mutton will open here on the new side?
Bazaars and shops
What an eastern city without a bazaar! In Tashkent, the largest and most famous market of the city "Chorsu" is responsible for it. The atmosphere that reigns here can not be conveyed in words: the notes of oriental sweets are mixed with the aroma of spices, and the sweetest ripe fruits complete the olfactory dizziness.
There are in the city and the usual shopping malls "City Macon", "Mega-Planet", supermarkets "Basket" or "Continent". Finally, it is worth looking at the Alai Bazaar, where it is said that everything can be found - from fruits and vegetables to clothing and gold.
Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Tashkent
The heart of Tashkent is the square of Amir Timur, around which the buildings of the museum of Timurids, the Forum Palace and the Law Institute of the 19th century elegantly settled. The architectural ensemble is crowned by the symbol of the city - Tashkent chimes.
Hast-Imam Square (or Hazrati-Imam) is the religious center of Tashkent, because here are the main madrassas and mosques of the country. This is the Barak-Khan Madrasah of the 16th century, and the Tillya-Sheikh Mosque, and the Mausoleum of St. Abu Bakr Kaffali Shashi, as well as the Imam al-Bukhari Islamic Institute.
The Khoja Ahrar Vali mosque deserves special attention, which was built in 819 at the highest point of the shahristan of the then Tashkent. Of course, it was not once rebuilt, renamed, but to this day it has remained in a surprisingly good condition. And its bright impressive walls, like many centuries ago, are surrounded by the ancient squares of Chorsu, Khadra and Eski-Zhuva.
Of the remaining monuments in Tashkent, it is also worth visiting the Sheikhantaur ensemble (consisting of three mausoleums - Yunus-Khan, Sheykhantura and Kaldirgach-Biya), the mausoleums Zainutdin-Bobo and Sufi-Ota. From the cult constructions, the existing Kukeldash Madrassah, Abdul-Kasym-Eshon madrasah, Jami Mosque, Mirza-Yusuf, Hybrabat-Eshon were preserved.
Museums
In Tashkent, many museums, including the State Art Museum, the new museum of Amir Timur, the Museum of History of Uzbekistan, the Museum of Applied Arts and the Literary Museum. Noteworthy is the world-famous Opera and Ballet Theater. Navoi with a beautiful square in front of him. Photo of Tashkent (13)
