Plan of the city of Santo Domingo
Santo Domingo is divided, flowing here the Osama River, into two parts .Western is considered the business and cultural center of the capital, and the eastern (Santo Domingo Oriental) - historical .The most interesting areas are the colonial zone (Colonial Zone), located on the west bank of the river, facing the Caribbean Sea .Here, just to the west, is the ancient neighbor of Santo Domingo, the Gazcue district with lots of houses in Victorian style and green streets .In the vicinity of this area there is a national theater, a museum in the Plaza de la Cultura, a national palace (Palacio Nacional) - a modern meeting place of the government and the Palace of Fine Arts .On the street George Washington Avenue (which is better known as El Malecon) is the majority of hotels, restaurants and entertainment for tourists .
In the less developed eastern part of the city, Oriental Santo Domingo, there are other important tourist attractions of the capital, such as the Columbus lighthouse, the caves of the National Park Los Tres Ojos and the Aquarium. In addition, in the vicinity of the city there are two large parks - the botanical garden (Jardin Botanico) in the north and the park of Mirador-Sur in the south.

Kitchen and restaurants
Inexpensive snack can be in numerous "comedians", or cafeterias. The daily renewed dish of the day "plato del dia" is an impressive portion of meat or chicken with a side dish of rice, beans and salad plus a drink. "Plateau" will cost only 3-8 USD.
In search of "fast food" you can look at the extremely popular Chinese restaurant "pica pollos" in the Dominican Republic. The main dish in them, as the name suggests - grilled chicken and their derivatives, in a company of rice and salads.
You can quench your thirst with freshly squeezed juices, which are sold literally on every corner.
Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Santo Domingo
Of great interest are Fort San Diego, the palace of Alkasap de Calon, the fortress of Concepción, the Casa de Bastidas (the "Captain's Palace") and the Casa de Ovando, the first stone house of Kasa- Kopdon (The House of the Order Ribbon), the palaces of Casa del Duarte and Casa Borghelia, the fortress of La Fortaleza, the palace of Hostal Nicholas-Nader, the ensemble of the colonial buildings of Atarazana and the oldest paved street of the New World - Kalles des Las Valles, DAMAC.
And also, the symbol of the city - Faro-o-Colon lighthouse ("Columbus Lighthouse"), which houses a mausoleum with Columbus remains and a museum. It is worth visiting the National Pantheon, the mausoleum of Baluarte ("Altar of the Motherland", where the founders of the Dominican Republic are buried: Duarte, Sanchez and Mella) and the Cathedral of Santa Maria la Menor (the oldest in America).
At the moment, a new excursion program is being developed, which includes 8 sightseeing tours to the sights of the capital, most of which are in the historical part of the city, attributed to the UNESCO World Heritage in 1990.
Museums of Santo Domingo
The city has many museums, where you can hide from the heat and learn much about the history of the city and the country. Also good are the Dominican Museum, the Center for French Culture, the Museum del-Rescato-Submarine with a magnificent collection of weapons, the La Caleta Museum with an underwater park, the Amber World Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of History and Geography, and the Zoo and Aquarium.
