In India, Hinduism is very common. According to this religion, the highest meaning of life is to achieve spiritual enlightenment. When communicating with the sadhus, as well as visiting Indian temples, you must follow certain rules:
- Before entering the Indian house (especially the temple), take off your shoes.
- Do not wear clothes that are too open.
- Temples and religious monuments in India are only circumvented clockwise.
- Traditionally, a sadhu can offer you an offering: do not refuse to accept it.
- Traveling spiritual teachers are usually given a small amount of money as a sign of respect and gratitude. Do not fall for the bait of pseudo-teachers and just charlatans: a real sadhu will never beg you for a donation or other compensation for communication.
On hygiene
Your concepts of hygiene are likely to be very different from those that you will encounter in India.
