Kazyukas
Kazyukas is the annual fair in Vilnius, taking place on the first weekend of March. National craftsmen from all over Lithuania and from neighboring countries - Poland, Latvia and Russia come here. Virtually no one leaves here empty-handed - local residents and numerous tourists necessarily purchase souvenirs.
New Year in Vilnius is
Like many other European capitals, Vilnius hosts many guests for the New Year. After all, celebrating holidays in another country is always interesting and unusual, and the Baltic countries have long been close and attractive for Russian tourists by the lack of a language barrier.
New Year in Lithuania is
In any European country, winter holidays are widely celebrated. The culmination of these holidays is, of course, Christmas, but the New Year has traditionally held various events. Lithuania is no exception, the New Year is celebrated everywhere.
In the beginning of spring the International Women's Day comes, and in late March and early April Lithuania celebrates Catholic Easter, one of the most significant religious holidays. In Vilnius and Kaunas, the Easter pyramid of 30 thousand colored eggs, provided by both the state and the Lithuanians themselves, is erected each year. After the holiday eggs are distributed between shelters and homeless.
The memory of the deceased in Lithuania is honored on All Saints' Day on November 1, the graves of friends and relatives are decorated with flowers, candles are lit. The originality is celebrated on the day of the winter solstice, on December 23, the Blucas Festival. In the night, along the streets of the city they carry an old stump - the Blukas, a symbol of unfulfilled hopes and work that has not been done. Its burning symbolizes the transition to a new world, the day begins to increase, and the night diminishes. On December 25 Christmas comes - a quiet home holiday, in Lithuania it is celebrated in a close family circle.
Important in the life of the country are historical and national holidays, including the Day of the Defenders of Freedom on January 13, the Day of Restoration of the Lithuanian State on February 16, the Day of Restoration of the Independence of Lithuania on March 11, the Day of Statehood on July 6, the Battle of Zalgiris on July 15, rooted in the times Teutonic Order, and no less ancient Vytautas the Great's coronation day September 8, Constitution Day October 25, Armed Forces Day November 23 - all these dates are memorable and revered by the inhabitants of Lithuania.
