In addition, the museum now has conference rooms, a science center, huge exhibition areas, shops and restaurants. Between the floors visitors can move on escalators or in glazed elevators. Under the roof of the museum are collected impressive collections on the history and heritage of Scotland, covering the world of nature, art, design, science and technology.

On the opening day of the museum, guests saw a new vestibule with arches leading to the atrium of the Great Gallery, where "Window to the World" is located - the largest museum installation occupying 4 floors .Behind the glass, 18 meters high, housed more than 900 objects: from the jaws of the sperm whale and the skeleton of a giant deer (whose age is estimated at 12,300 years), to one of four surviving knight helmets of the XIV century .In other galleries you can see showcases with the works of outstanding Scots, whose inventions have changed the world, expositions of nature with a variety of both zoological and geological samples .Among them - a meteorite from Mars, whose age is estimated at 1.3 billion years .There are also expositions of various cultures of the world .

The National Museum of Scotland has a long and impressive history, which began in 1780. Then the National Antiquities Museum of Scotland was founded by the Society of Antiquaries. Later, in 1904, it was renamed the Royal Scottish Museum. The museum received its current name only in 2006, and in 2008 it was closed for reconstruction until July 2011. After the reconstruction, it turned into one of the largest museums in the UK and one of the best Victorian public buildings in the country.

The National Museum of Scotland is open daily, from 10.00 to 17.00. Admission is free.
